Refugee and Immigration: Pro Bono Legal Assistance

Refugee & Immigration
We are attorneys who wish to assist refugees, asylum-seekers and immigrants by volunteering with partner organizations, such as HIAS and the Mexican Coalition. We hosted a HIAS pro bono attorney training session in asylum representation; our attendees took on asylum cases. We research immigration and asylum-related training opportunities and attend those programs in order to volunteer at legal clinics offering such help as emergency preparedness for undocumented immigrants, preparation of DACA renewal applications and assistance on asylum cases. We seek to expand into other discrete areas of immigration law in order to continue to provide legal assistance to refugees and immigrants. Most of our attorneys are not immigration lawyers. We welcome the help of all volunteer attorneys, whether currently practicing or inactive. We will roll out the red carpet if you are experienced in immigration law and wish to mentor others

This is a subgroup of BJ's Refugee and Immigration Committee. When you join, we will also add you to the general list and encourage you to attend larger committee meetings. If you are interested in the Refugee and Immigration Committee but are undecided on your focus of interest, contact committee Co-Chair Elaine Klein, elainekleinteacher@gmail.com, to learn more.
