Congregation Beth Am

OPEN Groups are listed below. Sh'ma Groups are formed by Beth Am members who are enthusiastic & motivated to lead and/or participate in a meaningful small group. Focus varies by group and can be based on interests, life stages, and/or geographic location.
While the makeup of each group will be as different and diverse as our membership, all groups are provided with training and access to discussion materials focused on “big questions” that provide a basic structure for each group meeting.
Sh'ma Groups will be led by members (trained lay leaders called “guides”). Group members commit to an initial 6 meetings within 3-6 months (meeting at least once a month)., Contact: shmagroups@betham.org - Sh'ma Groups Team

An exploration and application of “The Relationalist Manifesto” from The Second Mountain by David Brooks

Everyone
This concluding chapter of Brooks’ book is a yardstick by which we may examine our personal relationships within the Beth Am Community and explore relationship enrichment by completing a mutually agreed upon, voluntary service project benefiting our congregation. Preparatory reading of the “Manifesto” chapter is desirable; entire reading of The Second Mountain is optional.

Underpinning our endeavor is Brooks’s declaration “The social fabric is not woven by leaders from above. It is woven at every level, through a million caring actions, from one person to another. It is woven by people fulfilling their roles as good friends, neighbors and citizens” Hands on, we’ll draw upon our Torah’s teachings and Jewish traditions regarding voluntary service.

We will meet a minimum of six agreed upon times in the coming months. Some sessions we'll hold in participant homes; others on campus with classroom options.
