Finding Spiritual Paths: Engaging the Other, Understanding Ourselves

Our small group of spiritual seekers will continue the shared exploration of personal journeys of spiritual growth, development and frustration. Our group brings diverse perspectives and experiences to share, challenge and debate.

This year, some members may search to “see the Face of God in Others,” while other members still struggle with whether God exists. Some may seek to strengthen the spiritual choices they have made in daily life by engaging more deeply with teachings and stories focused on the Other. Some may want to use exploration of the Other to look inside and find the Divine Spark that helps to bring us through troubled times.

We will use sections of Burger’s book Witness as the base for monthly discussions, but members are encouraged to bring other materials as study “texts” – including non-Jewish sources as well as artistic representations – to extend and deepen our conversations.

Each month one group member will take responsibility for organizing and facilitating our discussion.

In addition, our group is interested in learning about spiritual expression through artistic forms. We hope to arrange one or more “field trips” to New York cultural resources, especially Jewish organizations such as HUC-JIR, the Center for Jewish History, and the Jewish Museum.

The meetings will be held each month on a Wednesday evening at 8 p.m. Dates for our 2019-20 meetings: November 20, December 18, January 15, February 12, March 18, April 22, May 20, June 17.
